Inauguration of Our New President

The Tice's Meadow Bird Group are delighted to announce that Lt. Col. Roger Dickey has graciously accepted our invitation to become the group's President.

Roger is a well known and well respected figure in British ornithology, so it is a real coup for the Tice's Meadow Bird Group to have him as our President.

A retired Royal Artillery officer, with 43 years' service, Roger is the current chairman of the Army Ornithological Society, and his premiership will allow us to build on our strong links with the British military community, which is apt for a nature reserve on the outskirts of Aldershot - “the Home of the British Army”.

Roger is also a Trustee of the British Trust for Ornithology, a member of the BTO Governing Council, and Chairman of the BTO Regional Network Committee.

In his home county of Somerset, Roger is Chairman, and former President of, the Somerset Ornithological Society, and Chairman of the Somerset Wildlife Trust's “Heart of the Levels Group”

An experienced bird ringer and surveyor, and holder of a BTO 'A' Permit, for the last 20 years Roger has been surveying seabirds on behalf of the Ascension Island Government, and in concert with the RSPB, as well as running projects in West Africa and Cyprus, and nearer to home on Cape Wrath and on the Defence Estate.

Roger has authored a number of scientific papers on South Atlantic seabirds and has appeared on the BBC's Countryfile.

We are grateful to Roger for all the work he has done previously ringing on site and promoting our nature reserve, and look forward to the group and reserve prospering in future under his premiership.
